Magic Commander

An overview of the Magic: the Gathering Commander decks I currently have.

Explanation of the terms:

Theme: What the deck is about. If it's tribal, it will be specified here.
Playing Fun: How much fun I have playing the deck.
Power level: How much the deck has inpact on the board.
Budget: How much extra money I have put in to make the deck what it is today, not counting the starting deck (if any)

 Roon of the Hidden Blink

  • Theme: Blink
  • Playing Fun with: Average
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: Underwhelming
  • Budget: High

This deck is based on 'Enter the Battlefield'-effects and playing them over and over (blinking).

Probably the deck I tweaked the most, but it is still struggling to do what it supposed to do.

Upgraded from a Precon Commander deck.

 Draconic Domination

  • Theme: 5-color Dragon tribal
  • Playing Fun with: Good
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: Good
  • Budget: High

Well, who doesn't like a Magic deck full of Dragons?

A well balanced deck that has become surprisingly good, better then expected.

Upgraded from a Precon Commander deck.

Underworld

  • Theme: Vampire tribal
  • Playing Fun with: Good
  • Playing Fun against: powerful
  • Power level: Good
  • Budget: average

Underworld meets Magic.

This Vampire deck can get out of hand quickly. Vampires are quite a strong race.

Upgraded from a Precon Commander deck.

Daretti, Build from Scratch

  • Theme: Red Artifacts
  • Playing Fun with : Average
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: Average
  • Budget: Average

This deck likes to swap Artifacts from the board to the graveyard and back.

I have not found the optimal setup yet.

Upgraded from a Precon Commander deck.

 Mayael of the Beasts

  • Theme: Beast tribal
  • Playing Fun with: Average
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: Average
  • Budget: Below average

My first attempt to make a tribal commander deck.

Once it's going, it's fun, but getting to there is a bit of a struggle.

Deck based on an internet article.

 The Coalition

  • Theme: Coalition / 5-color do-stuff deck
  • Playing Fun with: Good
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: low
  • Budget: below average

Sisay is the commander, but it's more a theme commander than using her ability.

This deck is heavily based on the Precon The Coalition. I like that deck a lot, so I extended it to a commander deck.

Ancient Depths

  • Theme: Creatures of the Deep / Ramp
  • Playing Fun with: great
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: Above average
  • Budget: average

When I saw Arixmethes, I knew my Ancient Depths 60-card deck would become a Commander deck. Same strategies: ramp and play big sea monsters. The fun in this deck becomes of you actually do stuff all the time, playing half of your library during a game is not uncommon.

Deck based on the internet deck Ancient Depths.

Holy Knights

  • Theme: Knight tribal / Equipment
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting high
  • Playing Fun against: okay
  • Power level: unknown, expecting medium
  • Budget: below average

I always wanted a Knight deck. Inspired by the Dual Deck Knights vs. Dragons. Then a Knight / Equipment Brawl deck came out and I figured this was my chance.

 Jarad, Grave Lord

  • Theme: Golgari / Graveyard
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting high
  • Playing Fun against: hard
  • Power level: unknown, expecting medium
  • Budget: low

I already had a 60-card deck based on the precon Grave Power. An internet article used Jarad to do about the same, altough leaving Blue out and adding Black. So this deck was born.

 Lurking in the Shadow

  • Theme: Ninja tribal
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting high
  • Playing Fun against: surprisingly
  • Power level: unknown, expecting high
  • Budget: average

I had a very good 60-card deck based on a Planechase deck about Ninja's, but it begged for a commander version. Then I saw Yuriko and found out there were more Ninja's released. Jeeeej!

 Darien, King of Soldiers

  • Theme: Lifegain / Tokens
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting high
  • Playing Fun against: frustrating
  • Power level: unknown, expecting no clue!
  • Budget: low

I always wanted a Soldier deck, and a Token deck. Then i saw an internet article about Darien and I had the most cards needed to make it work. Searching the cards in my collection costed me more time than deciding what to put in or not.

 Sacrimundar

  • Theme: Sacrifice
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting medium
  • Playing Fun against: very frustrating
  • Power level: unknown, expecting high
  • Budget: low

Grixis colors, a semi-weak spot for me. But to make it to a Super Villain deck was a bit to much. Altough somehow I wanted to make a nasty deck to play against anyways (yeah, sort of revenge). I think i succeeded...

Deck loosly based on an internet article.

 Dark Elven Empire

  • Theme: Elves
  • Playing Fun with: unknown, expecting good
  • Playing Fun against: another one???
  • Power level: unknown, expecting high
  • Budget: average

Elves, another tribe that you just have to have. Pure green Elves is not what attract me, I like them a bit more evil. Lorwyn block added black Elves, I had a commander deck planned around 'Dark Elves'. And then I saw they released a commander precon with Lathril, Blade of the Elves. A no-brainer from there.
